Measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

GP Registrars and Students

Our practice is a training / teaching practice. Our registrars are fully qualified doctors and they have a great deal of hospital experience. They are attached to our practice for 12-18 months and usually become general practitioners after completing their training. When booking an appointment you may be asked if you would consult with the registrar appointed to this practice. On occasions you may be asked for permission to video record the consultation for training purposes (a signed consent form would be be required).

Intimate physical examinations would not be recorded and the camera would be switched off at any point at your request.

Our practice nurses are highly qualified and can advise patients on many minor problems. They also provide general nursing services such as dressings, ear syringing, removal of stitches and can advise on immunisations to prevent childhood diseases as well as for foreign travel.

They also run specialised clinics such as asthma, diabetes, coronary heart disease and anticoagulant. These are by appointment only.

Lorraine Dean provides services under the direction of the nursing team including smoking cessation support.

Phlebotomists

Samantha Young and Lorisa Allen provide phlebotomy (blood test) clinics in the mornings. Please book an appointment with reception.

Miss Ami Fordham is the practice Manager and has overall responsibility for the practice. If you have any comments regarding the practice, any suggestions or complaints, please feel free to inform reception that you wish to speak to her.

Our reception staff will be happy to assist in making routine and emergency appointments and dealing with routine enquiries. It is a legal requirement that confidentiality of patient's records is maintained at the highest level by all staff.

District Nurses

The district nurses work alongside the practice and offer a range of skills to any of our patients who require nursing care at home. This is usually arranged by the hospital on discharge or by the doctor in other circumstances.

If you need to contact the district nurse team, please telephone the surgery and leave a message with the reception staff.
